North Wales Tour 2017 Day Three

28 Jul 2017

Team selection took place after the Punch and Judy show, Wayne and Mash did the pier walk leaving the younger element to spend a penny in arcades, Dom came up trumps redeeming what he thought were poker style chips to find they were only refundable for fruit salad chews, his pockets were bulging and given yesterday's performance any form of sugar rush to get his feet moving was welcomed. Rendezvous was all going to plan first wave of players and spectators were well into the Galleon fish and chips , SueBowen was well into her pitcher , this time fortunately it was a large costa and we all  mosied back to penhryn avenue when CEO read out a tx from raza " hi Wayne checking I'm at the right ground, it is next to the council offices and as its 1.30 no one is here "  umm Conwy doesn't have the same ring as Colwyn. Skipper for day Wiggy decided to buckthe trend and have a bowl and Colwyn finished on a healthy 210 with pro Rumesh Buddika stroking his way to 136 of them not out , there was a brief moment where he was on 99 wiggy managed to get him to top edge one straight down mashersthroat , unfortunately he wasn't aware and by the time he had completed a triple salcho re checked the height speed and velocity and he had tried to remove his glasses and hat all at the same time it was obviously in the airlong enough for Wayne to shout he's on 99 Mash, that proved to be a bridge tofar , in mashers defence he did land in the same vicinity but the idea of the keeper offering his gloves to do the necessary was lost and the pro duly obliged took the single and his quest for runs at the death was still in full flow. Somehow our second innings was turned upside down , literally and the upside down batting order got off to a slow sticky start Joe Mitchell pushed prodded and probed and to his credit scored a respectable 28 and with Kasun finding mid wicket Bury were soon behind the 8ball when Joe started the usual cannonball effect of tumbling wickets with James, Fraser , Harvey on debut being removed first ball , Masher all offering little resistance. A brief cameo from raza trying to makeup his earlier misdemeanour and few runs here and there somehow got us over 100just ,enter skipper Wiggy who's Russian roulette style tactics of running it to the wire was giving the spectators little hope of avoiding a whitewash began rebuilding playing an array of shots around the ground and swiftly moved into double figures , but it was Jamal who caught the eye with some thoroughbred stroke play , tinged with some lusty blows which resulted in half dozen maximums , and suddenly Bury had a sniff albeit the brains trust of watching captain chairman and Domo had wasp at 0% with 30 still needed and couple of overs left , once again Jamal proved to be the man for the big occasion and more powerful hitting to all corners remarkably brought us to the last ball ,scores were tied, unfortunately Usman's words of wisdom from the none strikers sent Jamals brain into scramble mode and his skip down the wicket to the last ball only managed to turn it into a yorker and it somehow managed to find it into the bowlers hand who did the necessary and ran him out.  After a mixture of sighs, boos, and cheers had broken out it dawned on everyone what a good game of cricket had been achieved and Bury were thankful of the tie thus avoiding the whitewash and everyone was happy. Big thanks to all who took the time outto support and take part in another successful tour , special mention to James Weston who managed to complete a full week of tour with the boys ,unfortunately his hotels were located in Bangor and Colwyn Bay but he still managed to be heavily involved albeit from a distance , tour week was moved to encompass school holidays this year and it's hoped it will be supported infuture years by all connected to the club in young, old , past and present players and families to ensure the acquaintances and memories live on for the good name of the club and those who helped forge those links.     Wayne
