Report: 2nds win game in hand to extend lead at top

16 Aug 2021

The 2nd XI, led by a Lee Halliwell half century, extended their lead at the top of the Division 4S&W table with a 75 run DLS victory over Hindley St Peters.

Joe Mitchell (23) and Zain Khan (35) set a strong foundation to the Bury innings, putting on 49 for the second wicket in 20 overs. Stand in captain for the weekend Mohammed Majid scored a run-a-ball 21 before Lee Halliwell reached his second Bury half-century, from 34 balls, finishing with 59* including 6 fours and 1 six. Bury had reached 187/7 from their 41 overs, following a rain delay 15 overs into the innings. Lukman Tailor was the pick of the bowlers for the home side, taking 4/55. The Hindley reply never threatened the Bury total, with each bowler taking one wicket each - the only exception being George Mills who took 3/34 from his 10 overs. The victory takes Bury 8 points clear of Swinton Moorside and Golborne, who are level in 2nd and 3rd, with the top two to go up after the final 4 games. (Scorecard)

On Saturday, both the 1st and 2nd XIs were denied potential victories after rain interrupted both games after the first innings. The 1st XI had bowled out league leaders Denton West for 166 - with Ahmed Matloob taking 6/35, and the 2nd XI had bowled out Worsley for 87, with spinner Mohammed Usman also in the wickets with 5/29.

On Sunday, the 3rd XI suffered a rain-affected defeat to league leaders Greenfield. Bury had fought well to bowl out Greenfield for 145 with 3 wickets for Faiz Amjad and 2 each for Farrukh Ali (on debut) and Uzair Fraz. Hamzah Hussain (23) looked good on his return but Bury were ultimately bowled out for 75 against a strong bowling attack. (Scorecard)
