Madawa Warnapura signs as professional for 2020

29 Nov 2019

Bury Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Madawa Warnapura will be the club professional for the 2020 season. The 31 year old Sri Lankan is an all rounder, batting in the top order and bowls right arm off spin.

Madawa currently plays first class cricket in Sri Lanka for Colombo CC and comes from a cricketing family - his father Bandula Warnapura captained Sri Lanka in their first ever test match against England in 1982.

He has scored just shy of 5000 first class runs at an average of 36 including 10 centuries and 29 fifties, and has opened the batting for Sri Lanka A on a tour of England in 2016. This will be Madawa's second stint in the UK having represented Dalton CC (North Lancashire and Cumbria Premier League) in 2017 where he scored 710 runs and took 50 wickets.

We look forward to welcoming Madawa to Bury CC in April.
