Bury CC 3rd XI v Edenfield CC 3rd XI

THERE'S NOTHING BURY KHAN'T DO !!!

Sunday saw Edenfield travel to the BCG to take on Bury 3rds.

With a wet day predicted it was anyone guess as to whether a full game would take place, however, the rain was for the most part, kind to Bury. The toss saw Bury put into bat. The innings started slowly with the Father Son combo easing into the game. Sohale took a while to get going but when he did the ground wasn’t quite big enough! Some lusty blows moved Bury on to 30-0. But a great spell of bowling from the opposition opener turned the game. Bury went from 30-0 to 33-3 in a flash with first Sohale and the Donny and The Captain departing cheaply. Conny came in a threatened to show some of the form that earned his promotion to number 5, but unfortunately an inside edge proved his undoing as he found mid wicket with a big shot. Callum came in and immediately the game started to move away from Edenfield at a rapid pace. The partnership moved past 50 but was cut short by a traditional moment of madness between the wickets and Callum was leaving the crease run out. Max and Ali also left in quick succession. But then the fireworks began. As Arslaan took a fancying to the Edenfield bowlers. Arslaan scored 45 from 23 to help post a huge total of 187-8. The batsman of the day was however Zain Khan who batted all the way through the innings for a superb 52, despite the testing conditions and despite wickets tumbling nothing phased the young man.

Bury's bowling efforts continued where the batting left off as Arslaan tore through the top order with a supreme spell of 5-3-8-4 showing all the reasons why he is so vitally important. The Edenfield innings never really got off the ground and with wickets falling at regular intervals no momentum could be gained. There was plenty of rotation with the bowling and Patrick Potts deservedly took 2 well worked wickets. With Donny and Ali also chipping in with one a piece. Conny finished the job with 2 wickets at the end.

All in all, a superb all round performance from a team that has high hopes for this season.

As a new feature this season the Bury 3rd Team Stylish Player of the Match was Zain Khan for his superb batting display.

Jonny Stackhouse (Captain)
